It was parents' night Feb. 12 as the Lady Cougars faced Wakefield. Seven seniors — Samantha Alvarez, Kylie Burhoop, Justine Jennings, Amy Hajek, Betsy Koons, Brooke Carlson, and manager Hanna Kemble — and their parents were recognized prior to the game.

A contest that should have been a win for Centre turned into a loss in the last minute.

The Lady Cougars led almost the entire game. A three-point basket by Josie Peterson at the end of the first quarter gave Centre a 12-7 lead.

The Lady Bombers got within one during the second quarter, but Centre led by seven points at halftime. Peterson, Carlye Simons, and Shelby Deines each completed a three-point shot.

The Lady Cougars jumped to a 10-point lead in the third quarter before Wakefield began closing the gap. Centre held a 38-35 lead at the end of the quarter.

With one and one-half minutes remaining in the game, Wakefield went ahead for the first time, 50-49. With seven seconds remaining, the Lady Cougars trailed by three, 53-50. Deines tried for a three-pointer in the last few seconds, but was not able to complete it.

Deines was the only player in double digits, with 14 points.

The junior varsity defeated Wakefield 23-18.

After being defeated Friday by Chase County on the road, Centre's record stood at 6-14. They were scheduled to play 3-15 Elyria Christian Tuesday at home in the first round of the regional tournament.
