Centre girls sweep Flint Hills triangular

In a triangular played Sept. 5 at Flint Hills Christian School in Manhattan, the Centre High School volleyball team defeated Flint Hills and St. Xavier in two games each to improve their record to 4-1.

Despite the wins, Coach Yvonne Burhoop said the team didn't play well. She said they missed too many serves, getting 80-of-93 across the net.

"We have to become more consistent in our passing in order to execute a fight," she added.

Flint Hills was defeated 25-23 and 25-18. Kylie Burhoop served for six points including four aces.

Setters did a perfect job, Selena Seifert completing 19-of-19 and Samantha Alvarez 13-of-13.

Alyssa Luna led in spikes, completing 8-of-11 attempts, including six kills. Burhoop was 6-of-7 with two kills.

Alisha Barney and Teaira Turner contributed one block each.

The Lady Cougars defeated St. Xavier 25-11 and 25-8 in the second match. Burhoop again led in scoring serves for a total of 10 points, including four aces. Jessica Deines served for seven points including five aces, and Bridgette Burns scored six including four aces.

Others who aced the ball were Amy Hajek, four, Seifert, three, Alvarez, three, and Gutsch, two.

Seifert was 5-of-5 in setting and Alvarez was 4-of-4.

Luna completed 6-of-6 spikes including two kills, and Leann Pankratz completed 4-of-4, with one kill.
