Centre is 1-2 at league tournament
The Centre High School volleyball team traveled to Solomon Saturday to the league volleyball tournament.
They lost matches with Hope and Bennington and defeated St. Xavier, bringing their record to 10 wins, 14 losses.
Hope won in two game with scores of 15-10 and 15-3. Jackie Klenda was leading server for Centre with six points. Laura Klenda led in defense, with 14 spikes out of 23 attempts.
On perfect settings by Brianne Stahlecker and Raschelle Jirak, Centre defeated St. Xavier handily in two games of 15-3 and 15-5. It was a team effort as each member scored points, had individual aces, and contributed to the defense.
The girls gave their best effort with Bennington, but lost two close games with scores of 13-15 and 11-15.
Stephanie Heiser and Ashlee Bowman led scoring with four points each. Laura Klenda was 19 of 23 in spikes and Bowman was 17 of 20.
