Centre ratifies agreement with district teachers
At a special meeting Monday, the board of education of Centre Unified School District #397 ratified a negotiated agreement with teachers.
It included the addition of a step in the salary schedule, allowing those who have reached the top of the pay scale to receive an additional $375. At least 20 teachers benefited.
Another $325 was added onto the base pay, providing a 2.1 percent salary increase across the board. The new base pay for a first year teacher is $27,940. The top salary is $40,450, based on years of experience and education credits.
Greg Wyatt, 5-12 head teacher, will receive $500 in supplemental pay off schedule. Shirley Gutsch, K-4 head teacher, will receive $330 off schedule. The extra pay was granted in expectation that their duties may increase due to the district's change to one administrator.
The board approved pay increases ranging from 17.5 to 35.5 cents per hour for classified personnel based on years of experience. The technology systems technician will receive $523.27 in increased compensation for the year.
The major part of the special meeting was spent in a two-hour "expectations" session with Dr. Bill Majors of Kansas Association of School Boards, to assist the board in planning and goal-setting.
