Centre High School students who recently took the 2003-2004 ACT test scored above the national average as a group, board members learned Feb. 9 at their regular meeting at Centre Elementary School.

The 12 students who took the test represented 63 percent of the senior class.

Testing was done in English, math, reading, and science reasoning. The composite score was 24.17 compared to the national average of 21.00. Females scored slightly higher than males, at 24.71 compared to 23.40.

Results in specific testing areas also reflected scores higher than the national average.

Analysis of ACT test results from the past three years reveals an improvement in composite scores each year, as well as in the various subject areas.

ACT/Explore subtests were given to eighth grade students in December. The average score performance in all areas was higher than students nationwide.

"We're really pleased with our students' performance," Superin-tendent Demitry Evancho said.
