Centre teams dominate homecoming games
Anyone who was a Centre Cougar or sports fan enjoyed Friday's homecoming games with Wakefield. The varsity and junior varsity teams won handily.
Boys
The Centre boys' varsity dominated the boards with quarterly scores of 28-12, 46-23, 63-32, and a final of 80-47.
The Cougars completed 16 two-point field goals, 11 three-pointers, and 15 of 28 from the free-throw line. Their over-all shooting was 39 percent. They had 34 rebounds, 11 turnovers, and 16 steals.
Todd Stahlecker once again was sharp from three-point range, completing six of 12 attempts. He led scoring with 20 points followed by Grant Garrard with 19. Carmen Mille had 13 points.
As of Friday, the team had eight wins and eight losses on the season.

B team
The junior varsity defeated Wakefield 50-41. They were tied at the end of the first quarter, 8-8, but pulled ahead 18-16 at half-time. A 21-point run in the third quarter put the Cougars up 39-25 and the lead kept them on top to the end.
Justin Garrard led scoring with 15 points, followed by Aaron Barney with 10. Other scorers were Andrew Hajek, 7; Trent Hajek, 6; Derek Belton, 4; Chris Peterson, 2.
Girls
The girls' varsity ran over Wakefield 71-31. They shot 45 percent from the field compared to 20 percent for Wakefield and 77 percent from the free-throw line compared to 50 percent for Wakefield.
The Lady Cougars were strong defensively, as well, having eight blocked shots, 53 rebounds, and 20 steals.
At the end of the first quarter, Centre was ahead 19-7 and went into half-time leading 39-14. The team scored 14 points in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth for an easy victory.
Laura Klenda had an outstanding night with 22 points, 15 rebounds, two blocked shots, and four steals. Raschelle Jirak scored 15 points, had 10 rebounds, and one blocked shot. Andrea Stahlecker also scored in double digits, with 11 points.
