Centre teams send nine to state

Centre boys and girls track and field teams participated May 23 in a regional contest at Fredonia.
Both teams placed eighth out of 26 schools represented. The top four placers in each event qualified to compete Friday and Saturday at the state track meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
Girls' qualifiers
Raschelle Jirak placed first in discus with an outstanding throw of 108'10". Laura Klenda qualified in javelin with a third-place throw of 116'9". Jill Fenske is going to state, as well, after placing fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.3 seconds.
The girls' 4x100-meter relay team of Jackie Klenda, Krista Heiser, Jill Fenske, and Kathleen Meek qualified with a fourth-place finish of 54.7 seconds.
Boys' qualifiers
Mark Pagenkopf qualified for the state track meet by producing a second-place performance of 11'6" in pole vault.
Todd Stahlecker qualified for two events, placing third in the 400-meter dash at a time of 52.9 seconds and fourth in the 800-meter run at 2 minutes 9.7 seconds.
Justin Garrard placed fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:35.5.

Kathleen Meek, 5th place, 300m hurdles, 56.10.

Justin Garrard, 6th, 1600m run, 4:53.3.
Aaron Barney, 6th, triple jump, 39'7".
