The board of education of Centre USD #397 met June 29 for an end-of-the-year meeting.
Incoming principal/superintendent Robert Kiblinger was present. He gave a short report on his efforts to fill staff vacancies. Kiblinger's duties officially began Thursday.
The board accepted the resignation of Sharon Eckstrom as high school science teacher and student council adviser. Eckstrom has accepted a teaching position with Smoky Valley USD #400. She was assessed $400 in liquidated damages.
Sharon Matz was employed as kindergarten aide at the rate of $8.25 per hour. It was reported the district saved more than $24,500 by employing a seven-hour aide instead of another full-time teacher.
Mary Ann Mille was employed as concessions manager, with salary to be determined at a later date.
Bills totaling $85,108.50 were approved for payment.
The board approved the year-end transfer of funds to maintain balances in the various funds that make up the district budget.
General fund transfers included $3,000 to driver's ed, $25,000 to food service, $9,000 to in-service, $3,000 to summer school, and $54,912.98 to special education, a total of $94,912.98.
Transfers from the supplemental fund included $100,984.45 to special education and $13,324.86 to vocational education, leaving the supplemental general fund with a carry-over of $30,256.42.
The ending capital outlay balance is $271,326.37, up from $239,256 at the end of the 2003-2004 fiscal year.
The special education fund balance is $176,854.58. This is $52,923 more than last year. The higher ending balance will help offset declining budget authority.
The board spent 10 minutes in executive session and included clerk Peggy Falen and Kiblinger in a discussion of employer-employee negotiations. No action was taken upon returning to open session.
The first board meeting of the 2004-2005 school year will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Centre Elementary School library in Lost Springs. All board meetings are open to the public.
