Charles Maggard

Charles Richard Maggard, 77, Marion, died July 4, 2002, at St. Luke Hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1925, to Henry and Grace (Oxley) Maggard, in Wellsville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen (Kohls) Maggard, and brother Clifford Maggard.

He is survived by sons Richard (Dick) and wife Carol of Marion, granddaughter Jennifer of San Diego, Calif., Dennis and wife Janis of Marion, grandson Charles R. (Chuck) Maggard II, Emporia, daughter Tena Reid and husband Jim, granddaughters Johsie and Nikki of Canon City, Colo., sisters Jane Marshall of Dallas Texas, Ruth Householder of Wellsville, Ohio, and brother James Maggard of Dallas, Texas.

He married Helen Kohls on July 25, 1945, in California, but they spent the majority of their years together in Marion.

Chuck was a car salesman for numerous dealerships throughout California and Marion County. In later years his love turned to fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Marion.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at the church with Pastor Bill Sherfy officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

Doug and Lori Heerey were vocalists and Anita Hancock the pianist.

Casket bearers were Dennis Maddox, Roger Kohls, Dennis Wayne Maddox, Dick Pracht, Amos Swigert, and John Maddox. Honorary bearers were Irv Schroeder, Mary Ann Conyers, Sandy Holub, Linda Kannady, Roger Kohls Jr., and Alfred Wayne Kohls.
