Charles Nesser

Charles "Sonny" Nesser, 76, died March 8, 2004, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Born Dec. 26, 1927, in Sparks, he was the son of Elmer and Ruth (Ganoway) Nesser.

On Nov. 16, 1948, he married Lou Jean Nienstedt at Manhattan.

He served in the U.S. Navy and spent most of his life in the construction business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photography. He also was a craftsman of miniature furniture for doll houses.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Karen Dvorak.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Nesser of Florence and C. Michael and Doug Nesser, both of Newton; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Marion Christian Church with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating.

Donna Hayen was organist.

Casket bearers were Matt Nesser, Mark Nesser, Dustin Nesser, Rick Dvorak, Darrin Dvorak, and Allen Sangwin.

Honorary casket bearers were Luke Nesser and Theron Nienstedt.

Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
