Chase County duo too much for Warriors

From the start Jordan Mann and Amber Schroer did in the Marion High School girls' basketball team Friday at Chase County.
The Bulldogs duo combined for 41 points, 16 rebounds, and nine steals to lead Chase County to a 53-41 season-opening victory.
"They had two players that beat us," head coach Daryl Enos said.
Seniors led the way for Marion, with Toni Gordon scoring 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds, while Allie Maddox had 11 and eight.
Mann hit a three-pointer five seconds into the game, and eventually led 7-0, but Maddox nailed two three-pointers for the Warriors' first six points, and Chase County lead 13-6.
Mann continued scoring from the outside, knocking down three three-pointers in the first half and 19 total points, to give the Bulldogs a 32-14 halftime lead.
"We just looked pretty lethargic tonight for some reason," Enos said.
MHS looked a little better in the second half after switching to a zone defense, and outscoring Chase County 27-21.
As poor as the Warriors looked in the first half, Enos pointed out 12 points is just six baskets, and his girls never gave up.
"If we get a few shots to fall and hang on to the ball a few times it's a different ball game," he said.
Marion's 20 turnovers were down from some of its games last year, but still too high for Enos. What helped Marion was it forced 19 turnovers, including 10 steals.
Senior Megan Hudson had four of them, and junior Kari Tajchman and Erin Carr had three each.
Carr was Marion's next leading scorer with five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The Warriors take part in the Inman tournament this week, and head back home Tuesday for a match against league opponent Halstead.
