Chinese acrobats join Chingawassa lineup

A troupe of acrobats based in Beijing, China, will perform June 1 at Chingawassa Days.

The team, which is touring the United States, had an open date. Even with the already-packed schedule, organizers said it was a tremendous opportunity to bring a unique group to Marion.

Most skilled Chinese acrobats begin training at age four or five. This team of six has won international awards.

They use colorful costumes, props, and each other to demonstrate balance, agility, flexibility, strength, and precision.

An interpreter will attend to explain the skills presented and share cultural facts on China and the art of acrobatics.

Reviewers said both adults and children enjoy the demonstration.

Plans are for a short performance on Main Street at about 11 a.m., immediately after the bed races. The full performance will start at 12:30 p.m. in the park.
