CHS enjoy victories

The volleyball match Sept. 26 with St. Xavier belonged to the seven seniors on the Centre High School squad.
Playing in their last home stand of the season, the girls delighted fans with their high spirits and show of camaraderie. They were fired up and enjoyed defeating the Rams in two games, 25-16 and 25-10.
In the second game, Megan Gutsch served for 12 unanswered points, including nine aces. She also completed a total of five spikes including one kill for the match.
Alyssa Luna provided six service points, 10 spikes, and five kills.
Teaira Turner served for four points including one ace. She completed two of four spike attempts and one kill.
Selena Seifert served for three points including one ace. She was a perfect 30-of-30 in setting, six resulting in kills.
Gloria Belton, a senior who hasn't seen much varsity time, put in an excellent performance, scoring seven service points, two aces, five spikes, and three kills.
Alisha Barney provided four spikes, three kills, and one block.
Jessica Deines added two service points including one ace.
In a preceding match, the Lady Cougars defeated Sunrise Academy in two games.
The first game was close, and Sunrise took the lead several times, the last time being a 23-22 advantage. But good setting by Seifert and good serving by Gutsch enabled Centre to pull off a 25-23 victory.
The Lady Buffalos seemed to lose their concentration in the second game, giving Centre an easy 25-14 win.
Kylie Burhoop was awesome at the net, completing an incredible 20-of-25 spike attempts, including eight kills. She also had one block.
Luna served for 13 points including three aces.
Barney completed 12-of-12 spikes, five kills, and three blocks.
At the end of the evening, the Lady Cougars' record stood at 14-7.
The junior varsity defeated Sunrise in two games, 26-24 and 25-17. Earning service points were: Deines 8, Amy Hajek 7, Danielle Tajchman 4, Bridgette Burns 3, and Josie Peterson 3.
The Lady Cougars played Tuesday in a triangular at Hope.
