CHS girls lose to Solomon in OT
It was a close contest all the way, but the Centre girls' varsity couldn't hold out against Solomon, losing 48-50 in overtime at the Feb. 5 home game.
The Lady Cougars led throughout the first half with quarterly scores of 11-10 and 26-18. But the Lady Gorillas came storming back in the second half, with two three-pointers by Megan Kroeker, to pull to within two.
With 5:38 remaining in the third quarter, Solomon tied the game at 28 all and kept up with Centre from then on, ending the quarter tied at 34-34.
The lead went back and forth in the fourth quarter. With less than a half-minute remaining, Centre was behind by one, but a free-throw by Ashlee Bowman with five seconds remaining tied the game 43-43.
During the four-minute overtime, a three-pointer by Andrea Stahlecker put Centre ahead by three, but a turnover on a double-dribble by Bowman allowed Solomon to score and get within one. She was fouled on the play and completed a free-throw to once again tie the game, 48-48, with 30 seconds remaining.
Stephanie Hajek double-dribbled on the Centre possession, allowing Solomon the chance for a last shot. The final bucket was made as the buzzer sounded, giving Solomon the win.
Two Centre players scored in double digits. Alisha Loveless had 11 points including five of six free-throw attempts. She also had 13 rebounds and two blocked shots. Laura Klenda had 10 points but fouled out late in the game. She rebounded 10 times and had two blocked shots.
Kroeker was high-point player for Solomon with 19 points including 13 of 15 from the free-throw line.

Centre vs. Hope
The girls had to face Hope Friday, a team which ranks fifth in the state, and lost, 23-67.
The Lady Cougars had trouble controlling the ball and getting good shots. They were able to connect on only 10 of 42 attempts (24%) from the field and three of 11 (23%) from the free-throw line. Hope shot 48 percent from the field and 42 percent from the free-throw line.
Hope also out-rebounded the Lady Cougars, 39 to 25, and had 17 assists compared with five for Centre.
No one scored in double digits. Laura Klenda was team leader with 8 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, and one blocked shot.
