CHS girls place fourth in league tournament

Centre High School girls' basketball team was seeded seventh in the Eisenhower League tournament held during the past week at Solomon. They got past second-seeded White City Jan. 15 in the first round but lost to third-seeded Solomon Friday in the semi-finals. In the battle for third place Saturday, they were defeated by fourth-seeded Bennington. Top-seeded Hope won the tournament by defeating Solomon 63-34 in the championship game.

Although out-rebounded and outscored at the free-throw line, they shot 36 percent from the field compared to 19 percent for White City, and that made the difference. The final score was Centre 46 White City 38.

Andrea Stahlecker had a good night, with 12 points. Alisha Loveless and Laura Klenda had nine rebounds and two blocked shots each.

Centre vs. Solomon

Centre's scoring was spread among almost all players. Loveless scored eight points, followed by Hajek with seven and Fenske and Stahlecker, six each.
