CHS girls take third in tourney

The Eisenhower League tournament Saturday at Centre High School almost was a repeat of the Centre invitational four weeks ago.

The Lady Cougars advanced out of pool play in second place after defeating Solomon in two games, 25-13 and 25-21, and Elyria in two games with identical scores of 25-12.

They had a good chance to defeat Hope in the third match, tying the game at 23-23 in the first game, only to let it slip away, 23-25.

The second game also was close until the final minutes of play. The girls tried to come back from an 18-23 deficit but lost 21-25, putting them in second place in their pool.

In the semifinals, they played a close first game with White City but couldn't overcome strong spiking by a White City player. They lost 22-25.

The girls started out strong in the second game, jumping to a 9-1 lead under service from Selena Seifert. But they let the lead get away from them. After a 15-15 tie, they fell behind and lost 17-25.

They defeated Wakefield in three games, 19-25, 25-20, and 25-21, to take third place.

White City defeated Hope in three games to win the championship.

The Lady Cougars traveled to Hope Oct. 3 for a triangular.

They defeated Wakefield in three games, 25-21, 11-15, and 25-8, and lost to Hope in two games with identical scores of 21-25.

Centre junior varsity defeated Wakefield and Hope.

After the league tournament, the varsity has a record of 18-10.
