Centre High School girls' basketball team ended the regular season by adding two more games to their already impressive win column.

After defeating Wakefield Thursday on the road and Chase County Friday at home, they head into the regional tournament this week with an overall record of 16-4.

The Lady Cougars were defeated by Wakefield in the league tournament but reversed themselves with a 48-33 win against the Bombers on Wakefield's court.

The contest remained close until the fourth quarter. Centre trailed 6-8 in the first quarter after field goals by Kylie Burhoop, Teaira Turner, and Alyssa Luna. The team jumped to a 20-17 lead at halftime as Megan Gutsch and Alisha Barney joined the other scorers.

Selena Seifert added a three-pointer and two field goals in the third quarter to lead Centre in a 17-14 scoring advantage, giving the Lady Cougars a six-point lead.

The final quarter proved disastrous for the Lady Bombers as they scored just two points from the free-throw line. Centre added 11 including three field goals by Gutsch, one by Turner, and free throws by Turner and Brittany Owens, resulting in a 15-point win.

Gutsch and Turner scored 10 points each, followed by Burhoop nine, Seifert seven, Luna six, and Barney and Owens three each.

The junior varsity defeated Wakefield, 39-25. They outscored Wakefield for the first three quarters to take a commanding 29-12 lead. A 10-13 fourth quarter resulted in a 14-point win for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars overwhelmingly defeated 2A Chase County Friday, 69-30, in a non-league matchup.
