CHS honors Bob Kleinschmidt
Centre High School paid special tribute to the late Bob Kleinschmidt Friday during the football game at Cougar Field.
Kleinschmidt died of a heart attack in June while on vacation in Colorado at the age of 64. He was an instructor at Centre High School for 27 years and also was a bus driver for many years.
He retired from teaching in May 1996, and was employed by Marion Manufacturing at the time of his death.
Bob's wife, Arlene, Lincolnville, and their three children and families were present for Friday's celebration.
Following is a tribute printed in the game bulletin.
"Tonight we celebrate and honor the life of Bob Kleinschmidt.
"For most of his teaching career, Bob graced the halls and classrooms of Centre High School, and our community and students are so much better for it.
"Science teacher, social studies teacher, but most of all, a teacher of life, Bob impacted hundreds of students and their families in the Centre community.
"Outside of the classroom, Bob was a handyman's handyman, able to problem solve and fix just about anything from a woodworking project to a vehicle's engine.
"And most everyone knows, Bob manned the 'sticks' for many, many years along the sidelines of Centre High School's football field.
"Most importantly, Bob was a family man, loving Arlene and raising three children, Kelli, Holly, and Jeff, who today carry on his legacy of family.
"Bob is greatly missed by many in our small part of the world, but we will continue to carry within us the warm memories of his smile, his laughter, his friendship, his wisdom, and his love."
