CHS powerlifters take fourth at Quivira Heights
The Centre High School power-lifting team took fourth place in the Quivira Heights Invitational this past weekend.
The Cougar team scored 97 points with only five lifters.
Bryant Gutsch took first in the 123-pound class in the bench press, power cleans, and squats. His lifts in the bench press and in power cleans became new meet records with lifts of 155 pounds and 190 pounds respectively.
Travis Burns finished first in two of the three lift divisions in the 156-pound class. Burns bench pressed 220 pounds and squatted 315 pounds to win the two events. He also power cleaned 235 pounds for a second-place finish. Burns took home first place in his division.
In the 156-pound class, Todd Stahlecker finished first in the power clean with a lift of 240 pounds. Stahlecker added two second-place finishes in the bench press and in squats. In the bench-press event, he pressed 200 pounds and in the squats he lifted 305 pounds. Stahlecker finished second overall in his division.
Tad Remy finished sixth, sixth, and fourth in the bench press, power cleans and squats respectively. Remy hoisted 175 pounds in the bench press, 205 in the power clean event, and 305 in squats.
Curtis Gutsch competed in the 198-pound class and finished second overall. Gutsch finished first in power cleans with a clean of 305 pounds, while finishing second in the bench press with a 250-pound lift and a third-place finish in squats with a lift of 375 pounds.
