City airport needs fuel storage upgrade
Marion City Council reviewed a written report Monday from Marion Airport Manager Ty Zeiner.
The report indicated the airport was in good condition. The runway and taxi-way surfaces are in good shape with sufficient runway and taxi-way lighting.
All hangar space has been rented and there is a waiting list which is a "good sign" for a small community airport, Zeiner stated.
Cardie Oil Company, the fuel supplier at the airport, has notified the airport board that there needs to be a containment vessel of some sort constructed for the bulk fuel tanks. The board was told that this was a requirement and needed to be addressed as soon as possible.
Improvements include new paint on Hangar 2 which is faded and worn and a new airport office building.
A fish fry will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the airport which will be hosted by pilot Terry Chizek. All local pilots and others interested in aviation are invited to attend.
