City crew does maintenance work at ball complex

Marion City Commission rescinded a previous decision Monday regarding an amendment to the city's zoning regulations.

David Mayfield, city administrator, told commission a public hearing must be held before the commission adopts zoning changes. A public hearing date has not been announced.

In other business, public utilities director Harvey Sanders reported ongoing work at the baseball complex.

The driveway has been rocked, bleachers repaired, and red schale has been spread.

Sanders also reported street signs have been repaired, trees have been removed from the dike due to previous rains and high water, a ditch on North Cedar has been cleaned, and utility poles replaced.

Meters were replaced at the city's sewer wastewater lagoon, with insurance paying all but $500 of the expense.

A new bucket truck has been delivered to the city. Sanders said he would have it at Monday's meeting.

Janet Marler, city librarian, submitted a written report to commission. She announced a newsletter has been printed and distributed.

Marler also reported about 200 people viewed the quilt display recently at the library.

Mayor Eloise Mueller said she attended a cemetery board meeting and was impressed with the board and their activities.

A plumbing license was approved for Lester Funk of Funk's Supply Inc.

Mayfield reported city auditors will perform the annual audit Wednesday and Thursday.

The next commission meeting will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the city building.
