Marion City Commission heard from Bob Brooks of Brooks Development Tuesday about his company's plan to erect an assisted living facility in Marion.

"We're excited about the project," Brooks said. "Marion is one of the least served towns when it comes to assisted living facilities, even after we put in our 18 units, it will still be the least served than any other town in this area."

Brooks said he has built 10 assisted-living facilities in his 11 years of experience.

The facilities that Brooks has built encompass Colorado, California, Utah, and Kansas.

"We typically look for smaller towns for assisted-living facilities," Brooks said.

Brooks is hoping to construct the new facility at 200 Eisenhower Drive, and is expecting to build 18 out of the 25 possible town homes.

After Brooks' presentation, the commission approved the following for Brooks Development: a zoning change from agricultural to medium density residential on the five-acre property; a planning and final plat of the property; a conditional-use permit for storage units that will be built; and an Industrial Revenue Bond Application.

The commission also:

n approved warrants in the amount of $13,337.14.

n heard from Harvey Sanders, Director of Public Utilities, that his staff has been busy with work on the cemetery and swimming pool.

Sanders also said he thought the work-load would remain steady in the next couple of weeks.

Commissioner Larry McLain complimented the city staff for their work at the cemetery.

Sanders said the city intends to spray for mosquitoes in the next weeks.
