City offices to relocate

All City of Marion offices will be moved to the "old" (former) library, adjoining the City Auditorium to the west.
The City Commission meeting room will remain where it is, in the auditorium building, but will be enlarged eventually, City Administrator David Mayfield said Friday.
"We started thinking about making the move last year," Mayfield said. Provision for the move was made in the 2003 city budget, he said.
Lots of work has been done at the new site, he said. It includes painting, installation of new carpeting, office dividers, and a new reception desk.
All the labor has been excellently done by city employees, Mayfield said.
The former library was "in pretty sorry shape," he said. The bathrooms had to be remodeled.
The various city offices' computers will be linked, networked. The offices are much more spacious than the old ones.
The old offices, north of the east side entrance to the auditorium, will be rented to "someone who will be a boon to Marion," Mayfield said. The city has someone in mind, in fact, and if that doesn't work out, will come up with a different tenant.
