City tree dump hours change
The city approved an agreement during Monday's City Commission meeting to use a Plexar I Telephone System, an SBC product.
Angela Lange, a city employee, presented the Plexar proposal to commissioners.
The Plexar System, using the current city phone system equipment, will link all city offices' phones and intercoms. The Chamber of Commerce, the library and the historical society museum also can be "pulled into" the system.
It will cost $446.06 per month, and the city signed on to use it for a 36-month period. The city's phone bill is currently over $800 a month, Lange said.
The new system will make the per-line service much cheaper, she said.
Under the new system, when installed, if the phone at the police department rings three times without being answered, it will begin to ring at city offices.
Marion City Administrator David Mayfield praised Lange for working on the Plexar project "on her own. We appreciate it."
Mayfield, submitting his financial report to the commission, noted that through May, the city used only 25.3 percent of its proposed budget for 2003, whereas it might have been expected to use 41.6 percent (five-twelfths).
Commissioners also approved the updated City of Marion Personnel and Policy Guidelines. Mayfield and City Attorney Dan Baldwin reviewed and updated the manual.
The McPherson firm which audits the city's finances has made a proposal to write a financial policy and procedure manual for the city. The city will take it under advisement.
