City workers receive free festival buttons, pool passes

At a short meeting Monday afternoon, the Marion City Commission approved purchase by the City of Chingawassa Days buttons for full-time city employees, as in past years.

Employees who want to attend the main concert June 7, by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, will be given $20 buttons, and those who do not wish to attend the concert will be given $5 buttons.

All full-time and part-time city employees also will be given swimming pool passes at no cost. Part-time seasonal help will not receive the passes.

Commissioners also approved a contract agreement for the summer with pool manager Deanna Thierolf. Salaries and wages are to total not more than $16,000.

She will be an independent contractor, City Administrator David Mayfield said. The contract is just like last year's agreement with Thierolf.

Harvey Sanders, director of public utilities, said his people had painted the pool and the fountains in Central Park. "Now we're waiting for the rain to stop," he said.

The pool will be filled Thursday, he said.

Susan Cooper, director of economic development, said a Labor Availability Analysis of the Marion-Hillsboro Basis has arrived. It's available for perusal in the city clerk's office.

Commissioners approved payment of warrants for $21,249.76 and payroll in the amount of $25,533.85.
