CJHS boys add two to winning streak
The Centre Junior High School football team is on a roll. They have won their last five games.
On Oct. 3, they played Prairie Heights at home and won 50-6. They scored seven touchdowns and had four two-point conversions.
Except for six points scored by Prairie Heights in the final seconds, the game belonged to the junior Cougars.
Matthew Leach, Ethan Forsberg, Lance Diepenbrock, and Aaron Bowman each had a fumble recovery..
The goal line was crossed first at 6:12 in the first quarter with a 55-yard run by quarterback Seth Jirak. The PAT failed.
Jirak scored again with 1:28 remaining in the quarter and this time the extra-point attempt was successful on a pass from Jirak to Thieen Antoszyk. The score stood at 14-0.
One minute into the second quarter, Diepenbrock had a scoring seven-yard run. The PAT failed. At 2:35, Jirak caught a pass from Diepenbrock and ran 33 yards for another touchdown. He also ran for the extra-points.
Not satisfied with 14 additional points, the junior Cougars scored again with 41 seconds left in the half. Antosyzk caught a 42-yard pass from Jirak and Dane Moore took a pass from Jirak to complete the two-point conversion and end the half with Centre ahead 36-0.
The going apparently got a little tougher in the third quarter, because it wasn't until one minute left that Diepenbrock managed to score the only touchdown of the quarter on a 13-yard run. Matthew Leach's run for the extra-points was successful, making the score 44-0.
The last Centre touchdown came at 7:42 in the last quarter with a 35-yard pass from Diepenbrock to Jirak. The extra-point attempt failed.
