CJHS boys are fifth in tournament
Centre Junior High boys' basketball team ended the regular season in fifth place. They maintained that position in the league tournament held at St. Xavier, Junction City, by defeating St. Xavier Feb. 2 and White City Feb. 6 in the loser's bracket. They lost to Luckey of Manhattan in the first round.
The Cougars outscored White City 13 to 7 and 13 to 6 in the first two quarters of play, entering half-time with a 26-13 lead. White City outscored Center 15-10 in the third quarter, but the Cougars bested them again the fourth quarter to win the game, 48-37.
Three players were in double digits: Scott Peterson, 12, and Bryant Gutsch and Tad Remy, 10 each. Other scorers were Keenan Geissert and Chris Callahan, 6 each, and Clayton Garnica and Steve Hageberg, 2 each.
The team's over-all season record was five wins, nine losses.
