CJHS boys celebrate start of season

After coming away with wins in their first two games of the season, the Centre Junior High School basketball boys are feeling good.

They defeated White City Nov. 21 by a score of 30-25 and Hope on Monday, 47-16.

At White City, Seth Jirak led scoring with 10 points. Lance Diepenbrock and Alfonse Klenda had seven points each, Thieen Antoszyk four, and Sean Leihy two.

The Monday night home game with Hope saw Jirak rack up a total of 21 points. Antoszyk also was in double figures with 13 points. Leihy added five, Diepenbrock four, and Kevin Mueller and Klenda, two each.

The B team squeaked by Hope 31-30.

Hope led after the first quarter 8-4, but Centre got more aggressive and caught up in the second quarter, ending the half up by one, 14-13.

Scoring was identical for both teams in the last two quarters, eight and eight, and nine and nine, giving Centre a one-point final lead to win the game.

Ethan Forsberg, Steve Antoszyk, Matt Leach, and Michael Kaiser each had two points. Tye Remy and Jeremiah Zimmer scored four and Griffith 14.
