CJHS boys defeat Prairie Heights
Maintaining a no-loss record, Centre Junior High boys defeated Prairie Heights Thursday at Dwight 43-40.
They got off to a good start, jumping ahead 13-2 by the end of the first quarter, with six points coming from two three-pointers by Seth Jirak.
After scoring another 13 points in the second quarter, including a three-pointer by Lance Diepenbrock, Centre was ahead 26-14 at half-time.
At the beginning of the second half, coach Stan Wiles put in a second string of players. Prairie Heights was able to gain on Centre with 13 points in the third quarter compared to Centre's 8 points, and 11 points in the fourth quarter compared to Centre's nine points.
However, the junior Cougars maintained their lead, winning the exciting match-up 43-40.
Jirak was in double digits with 15 points. Thieen Antoszyk had nine, including three free-throws; Alfonse Klenda, nine, including one three-pointer; Diepenbrock, seven; Sean Leihy, two; and Kevin Mueller, one.
The boys now are 3-0 on the season.
The B team was narrowly defeated 30-31. Leading scorer was Phillip Griffith with 17 points. Others who contributed points were Michael Kaiser and Jeremiah Zimmer, three each; Aaron Bowman, Ethan Forsberg, and Tye Remy, two each; and Steve Antoszyk, one.
