CJHS boys defeat Wakefield

Centre Junior High Cougars defeated Wakefield 42-30, Thursday to score their second win of the season. They have one loss.

James Weber scored a touchdown in the first quarter, and Ben Krause ran for the two-point conversation. An answering touchdown and PAT by Wakefield tied the score, 8-8.

In the second quarter, the Cougars scored two touchdowns. Wakefield failed to score. Konley Harding caught a 10-yard pass from Ben Krause in the end zone but the PAT failed.

The second touchdown came on a 23-yard pass from Krause to Weber with 29 seconds remaining in the quarter. Krause ran for the extra points, resulting in a halftime score of 22-8.

Weber scored three more touchdowns in the second half, all on runs. A 31-yard run was followed by a two-point conversion by Krause. A 45-yard run and a 44-yard run added 12 points. The PATs failed, resulting in a final score of 42-30.

The team carried the ball 31 times for 293 yards. Weber was leading rusher, with 11 carries for 244 yards. Other rushers were: Josh Olsen 5-41; Adam Kristek, 1-5; Nathan Barney, 2-4; and Krause, 12-1.

Krause threw six passes, three completed for 32 yards. Harding received one for 10 yards, and Weber caught two for 22 yards. Krause recovered a fumble and had one interception.

Zach Antoszyk led the defense with six assisted and six unassisted tackles. Weber also had six unassisted tackles plus five assisted. Matt Ryff had 12 assisted tackles.

Other tacklers included Krause, 5-1; Josh Leach, 3-1; Olsen, 3-1; Kristek, 3-0; and Kacey Hanschu, 2-0.
