CJHS boys in loser s bracket after one round

The Centre Junior High School Cougars defeated Flint Hills Christian School of Manhattan Thursday, 37-32, to enter league play with a 5-5 record.

They were defeated by Prairie Heights, 45-34, in the first round of the Tri-County League tournament Saturday at Hope.

They will play White City at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the losers' bracket. If they win that game, they will play for fifth place at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

The Cougars were down 8-9 at the end of the first quarter against Flint Hills.

Jared Diepenbrock made three consecutive three-point baskets in the second quarter, astonishing spectators. After additional baskets by Trevor Troutt and Jacob Jennings, Centre led by four points, 23-19, at halftime.

After slow scoring by both sides in the second half, Centre won the game by five points.

Diepenbrock led scoring with 11 points. A.J. Temel and Troutt added seven points each, and six other players added two points each.

The junior varsity won, 32-26. Klenda scored 10 points in the second quarter and two in the fourth to lead scoring by 12 points. Jennings scored eight and Heath Hill four.
