CJHS boys place third in tournament
Centre Junior High boys defeated Hope, 36-28, Feb. 1 in the first round of the Eisenhower League tournament at Wakefield. They were defeated by Wakefield, 48-33, in the second round on Feb. 6. The boys played Saturday for third place and defeated Prairie Heights, 43-31.
Centre vs. Hope — In the game with Hope, Thieen Antoszyk was high-point man with 18 points. Other scorers were Seth Jirak, nine, Kevin Mueller, four, Lance Diepenbrock and Alfonse Klenda, two points each, and Sean Leihy, one.
Centre vs. Wakefield — Jirak led scoring in the game with Wakefield with 12 points. Antoszyk had eight, and Phillip Griffith, five. Diepenbrock, Mueller, Matt Leach, and Jeremiah Zimmer had two points each.
Centre vs. Prairie Heights — The game with Prairie Heights was tied at half-time, 13-13, but Centre had an 18-point run in the third quarter to surge ahead by 13 points, 31-18. The final score was 43-31.
Jirak led scoring with 20 points. Diepenbrock and Klenda had six points each. Other scorers were Kevin Mueller and Sean Leihy, four points each, and Antoszyk, three.
The Junior Cougars ended the season 8 and 5 overall and 6 and 1 in the league.
