CJHS boys suffer first league loss

Centre Junior High School boys' basketball team was defeated Thursday at Manhattan by a strong Luckey team. The 31-75 loss was the first in league play for the junior Cougars.

Luckey got off to a fast start, leaving Centre in the dust 22-3 at the end of the first quarter. Luckey's lead continued to mount as the game wore on, with a half-time score of 40-15, third quarter score of 59-21, and final score of 75-31.

Luckey had four players in double digits including 25 points by Matt Giller. Thieen Antoszyk managed nine points as leading scorer for Centre.

Others who scored for Centre were Seth Jirak and Lance Diepenbrock, five each; Kevin Mueller and Alfonse Klenda, four each; and Sean Leihy and Phillip Griffith, two each.

The boys' overall record is five wins, two losses.

B team

The junior varsity fared no better than the varsity. The boys were defeated by a score of 41-13. Phillip Griffith led scoring with seven points, followed by Jeremiah Zimmer with four and Dane Moore with two.
