CJHS boys win at league tournament
Centre boys defeated St. Xavier Saturday during the junior high league tournament at Junction City.
Both teams started slowly, with a 2-2 tie at the end of the first quarter. Centre picked up the pace in the second quarter, scoring 15 points compared to seven by their opponent, to end the half ahead by eight points, 17-9.
The Cougars continued to outscore St. Xavier in the second half, winning 38-28.
Scott Peterson had an excellent night of shooting, scoring 18 points. Other contributors were Bryant Gutsch, 7; Tad Remy, 6; Clayton Garnica, 4; Keenan Geissert, 2; and Steve Hageberg, 1.
The final round will be played Wednesday.
