CJHS football team swamped by Marion
The Centre Junior High Cougars didn't pose much of a threat to the Marion Junior High Warriors when they met at Centre Sept. 5.
Marion scored in every quarter, while Centre remained scoreless throughout the game. The final score was Marion 30, Centre 0.
Centre carried the ball 18 times for 42 yards, including seven carries by Phillip Griffith for 36 yards, four by Seth Jirak for five, four by Lance Diepenbrock for six, and three by Sean Leihy for five.
Seth Jirak threw the ball 10 times, four for completions and 58 yards. He also threw one interception. Phillip Griffith had one pass for two yards.
Sean Leihy had two receptions for three yards, Thieen Antoszyk two for 44 yards, and Kevin Mueller one for 13 yards.
Unassisted/assisted tackles were as follows: Jirak 7/5, Antoszyk 4/4, Dane Moore 3/5, Alfonse Klenda 0/5, Diepenbrock 0/4, Leihy 3/1, Matt Leach 1/3, Griffith 1/1, Tye Remy 0/2, Mueller 1/1.
Centre vs. St. Xavier
Centre played St. Xavier Thursday in a home game and won by a score of 40-6.
The first touchdown came in the first quarter with a 17-yard pass from Jirak to Leihy. Leihy ran in the two-point conversion.
At 5:55 in the second quarter Jirak ran 15 yards for another touchdown. He scored again with a 45-yard run. The extra point attempts failed.
Jirak completed a 15-yard run in the third quarter for Centre's fourth touchdown, Alfonse Klenda scored the extra points on a pass from Jirak.
St. Xavier managed to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
With :58 left on the clock, Jirak ran for five yards to score the final touchdown of the game. The PAT was no good.
The team carried the ball 35 times for 192 yards compared with 22 carries for 32 yards by St. Xavier. Individual carries were as follows: Jirak 15/125, Leihy 7/24, Diepenbrock 11/44, Griffith 1/3, T. Antoszyk 1/4.
Leihy and Mueller each had one interception.
Seth Jirak completed four of 10 passes for 34 yards and threw one interception.
Leihy caught the ball two times for 23 yards and T. Antoszyk had two receptions for 11 yards. St. Xavier caught one of five passes for 76 yards and had the ball intercepted twice.
Klenda, Mueller, and Leach each had one fumble recovery.
