CJHS girls begin season with two wins

The Centre Junior High School girls' basketball team traveled to White City Nov. 21 and came away with a big win, defeating the junior Lady Huskies 24-9. They also defeated Hope Monday by a score of 32-27.

In the game with White City, Selena Seifert led scoring with 10 points, followed by Alyssa Luna six, Megan Gutsch four, and Brittany Owens and Alisha Barney, two each.

White City failed to score in the first half while the junior Lady Cougars scored 10 points. Both teams added four points in the third quarter. Centre piled on 10 additional points in the fourth and White City managed five, resulting in a Centre win of 24-9.

In the B game, Centre defeated White City 20-2. Scorers were: Brooke Carlson six, Roberta Brubaker four, Brandy Kaiser, Samantha Alvarez, Justine Jennings, Kylie Burhoop, and Nellie Hill, two each.

A one-quarter C game resulted in a 4-0 Centre win with all points coming from Kristine Jirak.

Hope

The girls played Hope Monday in the first home game of the season.

Gutsch was the star of the team, scoring 14 points including two free throws. Other contributors were Luna with six points, Seifert five, Owens, three, and Teaira Turner and Barney, two each.

The girls took an early lead and were 11-3 at the end of the first quarter. They built on a half-time score of 17-11 by adding 11 more points in the third quarter and four in the fourth, to come out ahead 32-27.

It was a different story for the B team. They were overwhelmed by Hope and lost 8-35. Roberta Brubaker had four points, followed by Alvarez and Burhoop with two each.
