CJHS girls lose to Marion
A total of 14 girls are out for basketball at Centre Junior High School. They played their first games of the season Monday against Marion.
The varsity was defeated 19-15.
Neither team did much scoring, but a 5-1 Marion advantage in the first quarter proved to be the decisive factor in the final result.
Centre outscored Marion 7-5 in the second quarter, and Marion led 10-8 at halftime. Centre scored seven points in the second half compared to nine by Marion, resulting in a four-point win for the Lady Wildcats.
Ripley Howard led Centre's scoring with seven points, including one free throw. Other scorers were Allison Shields three, Jessica Turley and Tori Schill two each, and Amanda Floyd one.
The B team lost 34-16. They were outscored in the first three quarters but outscored Marion in the fourth , 8-4.
Theo Kassebaum was Centre's leading scorer, completing five field goals for 10 points. Turley added four and Brianna Alvarez two.
The teams are coached by Nancy Brockmeier. The next games begin at 5 p.m. Monday at home against Hope.
