CJHS girls win first round at tournament
CJHS girls played Flint Hills of Manhattan Saturday in the opening round of the Tri-County Junior League basketball tournament being hosted by St. Xavier, Junction City.
It was a low-scoring game except for the fourth quarter, when Centre scored 21 points to seal the win at 30-13. Other quarterly scores were: first, 4-5; second, 7-5; third, 9-10.
Selena Seifert led scoring for Centre with 10 points, followed by Jackie Klenda, seven. Other contributors were: Megan Gutsch, four; Jenna Beneke, three; and Alyssa Luna, Ashley Griffith, and Chelsey Tajchman, two each.
Centre vs. Luckey
In the final game of the regular season, CJHS girls played Luckey last Thursday at Manhattan. The team was defeated 17-29.
Unable to complete very many attempts at the basket, Centre was down 4-16 by half-time and 9-19 at the end of the third quarter. Scoring their best in the fourth quarter with eight points, the girls once again were outscored by their opponents, who had 10 and won the game.
The girls play Luckey again Thursday in the second round of the tournament.
