CJHS teams sweep Hope
Centre Junior High School varsity and junior varsity boys' and girls' basketball teams defeated Hope teams in games played Nov. 21 at Hope.
The varsity boys won, 41-37, in a hotly contested match-up.
Hope jumped to an 8-4 lead in the first quarter and led 18-12 at halftime.
The third quarter saw a dramatic turn around for Centre as the Cougars scored 19 points compared to seven points by Hope. Trevor Troutt scored eight points and Brian Burhoop and Jared Diepenbrock each made a three-pointer. The Cougars led, 31-25.
Although Hope outscored Centre 12-10 in the fourth quarter, Centre walked away with a seven-point win.
Troutt led scoring with 15 points, followed by Diepenbrock with 11. Other scorers were Burhoop, seven, A.J. Temel, six, and Jacob Jennings, two.
The boys' junior varsity won, 35-23. Zach Antoszyk led scoring with seven points, followed by Jessie Kopietz with six. Cole Svoboda, Jacob Jirak, Tyler Klenda, and Benjamin Wirtz scored four points each. Rustyn Kerbs, Casey Kristek, and Ben Baker added two points each.
The girls' varsity defeated Hope by eight points, 22-14. Centre led, 16-4, at halftime. They were outscored 10-6 in the second half but the large lead gave them the victory.
Just three players scored all of Centre's 22 points. Shelby Deines led with 12 points. Carlye Simons scored six and Josie Peterson added four.
The girls' junior varsity won, 26-17. Dallas Rosenow led scoring with 10 points. Ripley Howard, Tori Schill, and Amanda Floyd each scored four points. DJ Chavers and Allison Shields added two each.
