Clara Kohlman

Clara Sophie (Schroeder) Kohlman, 89, died July 1, 2002, at Vancouver, Wash.

One of seven daughters of the late Karl and Hattie (Vahsholtz) Schroeder, she was born at Olpe and grew up in the Youngtown community.

She was married to Henry Kohlman Dec. 26, 1933. He died in 2000.

They originally lived in the community east of Marion, then moved to Colorado, and eventually to Washington. For many years, they operated a dairy farm and egg ranch.

She was active in the Lutheran church her entire life, singing in the choir and supporting mission work. She also organized quilting groups.

The couple had two daughters and one son: Henrietta Clara or "Etta," Karen Joyce, and Jerry Lee.

She was a resident of Woodland Care Center, Woodland, Wash., at the time of her death.

Survivors include her three children, Etta Williams of Woodland, Wash., Karen Rice of Pueblo, Colo., and Jerry Kohlman of Wenatchee, Wash.; a sister, Erna Reed of California; brother, Herman Schroeder of California; nine grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. John Ryding will officiate at services to be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Grant Township Cemetery.
