Class reunions planned for Old Settlers Day

Representatives of Marion High School classes celebrating with reunions during the Old Settlers' Day weekend are asked to submit information to the Marion County Record by Friday.

Class of 1950

The class of 1950 will celebrate their 55th year reunion by gathering for coffee and rolls at 9 a.m. Saturday at the home of Dick and Evelyn Bredemeier, 225 S. Cedar, Marion.

At 10:30 the group will meet in the float area on Walnut Street to ride in the parade.

At noon they will have lunch together in Central Park. They will participate in the class recognition activities at 2 p.m. at the gazebo in the park.

A social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Hannaford's cabin at Marion County Lake, followed by a catered dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Class of 1955

MHS Class of 1955 will begin the weekend's festivities with a social gathering at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at the home of Ron Post, 39 Lakeshore Drive. Those attending are asked to bring snacks and drinks.

Classmates will gather at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the back room of Stone City Café for coffee and rolls.

They will line up for the parade at 10 a.m. on Walnut Street.

After the parade, they will have lunch on their own then gather at Central Park for the 2 p.m. presentation of classes.

A catered dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. at Marion Country Club. There will be 1950s music and decorations and an authentic MHS sports trophy will be given as a door prize.

A special guest will be Pauline Edmunds, who began her teaching career as Pauline Best with this group of students.

Class of 1960

Marion High School class of 1960 will observe a 45th reunion.

A social hour will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Country Dreams Bed and Breakfast northeast of Marion. This will be followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the rest of the evening will be spent visiting.

The class will meet in the parade gathering area on Walnut Street and board a class float for the annual parade. Following the parade, class members will enjoy lunch in Central Park.

The group will meet at 5 p.m. at Cottonwood Point, Marion Reservoir, for a cookout.

Class of 1965

Members of Marion High School class of 1965 will meet Friday evening at the home of Janie (Hett) and Thad Meierhoff, 402 S. Cedar, Marion for a casual get-together and snacks.

Classmates will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Walnut Street to ride in the 11 a.m. parade. Following the parade, everyone is encouraged to meet in Central Park for lunch, visiting, and afternoon festivities.

The group will have dinner Saturday evening at Country Dreams Bed and Breakfast, northeast of Marion.

Class of 1980

MHS class of 1980 will observe their 25th class reunion by gathering at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Walnut Street to ride a float in the parade.

A dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Julie (Hett) Nelson, five miles south of Marion.

Class of 1990

Marion High School class of 1990 will celebrate their 15th year reunion by gathering at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the former Bown-Corby School to ride in the parade.

The class plans to attend the dance Saturday night at Marion Country Club.
