Club enjoys dedication ceremony
Marion County Lake residents and guests celebrated the history and heritage of the park and lake Saturday with the dedication ceremony of a historical marker.
The marker honors Edward McBurney, superintendent and engineer of the construction of the dam. The marker is located at the CCC statue at Lakeshore Drive and Upland Road.
A reception at the lake hall after the dedication preceded the monthly Chat and Dine dinner, which featured lasagna and potluck additions of salads, vegetables, and desserts.
Landon Leiker presented a PowerPoint presentation about the original Marion County Park and Lake.
Dinner guests of Dwight and Helen Beckham included Norma Hannaford, Wanda Burk, Cleland and Irene McBurney, and Tom and Sharon Kostner. Other guests were Marie Hoffner, guest of Bob Risenhoover; Kim Evenson, guest of Jason Kirchmer; Gary and Marilyn Jones and Joan Berns, guests of Neysa Eberhard.
Recognized for first-time attendance at Chat and Dine were Jim and Debra Whitfill and Phillip Delozier.
Dick Schwartz was recognized as having an October birthday. Delmar and Nadine Iseli were recognized for celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Marilyn Hamler was the winner of a schoolhouse birdhouse.
Nadine Iseli asked those members interested in serving on the coordinating committee for 2007 to notify her as the election will be at the November meeting.
Hosts were Dwight and Helen Beckham, Larry and Marilyn Hamler, Clara Breme, and Gwen Heckathorn.
The last Chat and Dine meeting of the season will be the second annual soup supper at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at the south lake hall. Members are to bring soup spoons, family, and guests for a choice of vegetable, cheeseburger, chicken noodle soup, or chili.
