Colletts entertain weekend guests at Youngtown

Howard and Beth Collett's weekend visitors were Rick and Collette Erickson, Kate and Liz Erickson, Ryan Ricks, and Elizabeth Gravenstein, all of Manhattan, Don Argo of El Dorado, Chris and Carrie Parazin of Olathe, Randy and Rachel Collett, Zack and Maggie, Trevor Burnell, and Ben Rackers, all of Jefferson City. Mo., and Keith and Anne Collett, Hank, Lucy, and Caroline. They gathered to celebrate Collette's birthday.
Kristine Bateman spent last weekend with her mother, Jeannine Bateman.
Edmund Steiner and Vicki Smolik attended the REA annual meeting Tuesday night at Centre High School.
Roy and Rose Olive Hett had Sunday dinner with Marvin and Mary Mae Hett at McGillicuddy's.
Brent and Paula Hayen were Saturday evening visitors of John and Dorothy Hayen. Dorothy reported the low Saturday night was hard on all the spring flowers that were in bloom. Leon and Cate Hayen came Monday afternoon to visit Dorothy and John.
Shirley Bowers went with friends Sunday afternoon to Peabody United Methodist Church to the dedication of new bells in their bell choir. Shirley and David Bowers and Cy and L.Dena Goertz attended the "Come Join Us" Sunday school class party Thursday evening at Kingfisher's Inn and the dessert and program following at Eastmoor. Shirley and David and Greg and Mary Beth Bowers drove to Strassburg Baptist Church Sunday evening for the sing-along.
Cy and L.Dena Goertz attended the REA meeting at Centre High School Tuesday evening. Clint Jost and Cy attended the father-son banquet Wednesday night at Eastmoor. Diana Jost visited with L.Dena during the banquet. Cy and L.Dena are great basketball fans and watched the games Thursday, Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. They drove to the home of Eleanor and Ray Davidson Sunday evening to play Skipbo and visit.
Skip and Eileen Sieger returned Thursday from their trip to St. Louis, Mo., and Champaign, Ill. While in St. Louis, they visited John and Joan Mannhard and toured Shaws Garden. They visited their daughter and husband, Lesley and Chris Allen, in Champaign. They took a day trip to Chicago to tour the Museum of Science and Industry. They had a wonderful time during their week away from the farm but are glad to be home.
Rita Kraus attended the dedication of the new organ Sunday afternoon at Holy Family Parish church in Marion.
Youngtown FCE had its monthly meeting and dinner Thursday at the Hillsboro Senior Center. Those attending were Betty Ireland, Roseva McLinden, Gertie Mahoney, and LuCretia Winkley. Roseva was a supper guest that evening of Richard and Patty McLinden.
Leonard Klassen attended the REA dinner meeting Tuesday night at Centre and went to the father-son banquet Wednesday night at Eastmoor. Leonard and Rosalie had supper Saturday night with Elmer and Leonore Klassen at Kingfisher's Inn. Leonard and Merlie Friesen, Leonard, and Rosalie were Sunday dinner guests of Richard and Wanda Harms in Newton.
I spent the weekend in Wichita with my sister Jo Gearhart and daughter Marj Johnson. Marj and Joe Johnson and Emily brought me home Sunday afternoon. I got to see Ethan Johnson play the part of a star reporter in a dramatization of the birth of Christ through Easter morning. The youth of Fairview were in charge of the morning services and it was great to see how these young people had matured.

Saturday dinner guests of Roy and Rose Olive Hett were Wanda and George Coe from Wichita and Glen and Pam Hett, Samantha and Kyle. Roy and Rose Olive drove to Florence for lunch Sunday and visited with many friends including Mr. and Mrs. Jack Spain.
Morgan Makovec spent Wednesday with her great-grandmother Vicki Smolik. Morgan wanted to make cookies so they did. Vicki gave her some dough to play with and she entertained Vicki with a demonstration of how to roll out and cook cookies. She knew just how it is done on TV, so Vicki had fun watching her perform.
Betsy Bunnel and Kelli came Tuesday to visit Shirley and David Bowers and stayed the night, joining Janelle Paden, Abigail and Jonathan for visiting on Wednesday. David and Shirley attended a banquet at Eastmoor Friday night. The speaker was Dr. Donald Joy and his talks were about family life. Shirley furnished many of the centerpieces used throughout the whole weekend. She loaned family photos and wedding invitations of eight of her children that had been made into shadow boxes and hand paper-quilled by Rose Olive Hett. David attended the men's breakfast Saturday. Rhonny Bowers spent Saturday with Shirley and attended the ladies and girls' luncheon with her. Margaret Ireland and Shirley attended Athena Study Club Tuesday at the home of Lola Wheeler and Lenore Dieter. Blarney stones and ice cream was served for St. Patrick s Day.
Cy and L.Dena Goertz, Diana and Clint Jost, John Jost and Tory Hecht attended the catered banquet at Eastmoor Friday night. John has given Tory a diamond and they are to be married Jan. 3, 2004.
Roseva McLinden went to the visitation for Jim Baldwin at the Florence funeral home Sunday evening and the funeral services Monday morning.
