Comment from the cheap seats
Eloise Mueller and the rest of the downtown improvement project committee should be commended for their forward-thinking ideas for Marion's downtown area.
These plans have been in the works for a long time. It's good to see the idea advancing from "far-fetched" to "feasible."
These improvements would enhance downtown Marion, attract visitors, and attract more business.
Homeowners know the value of upkeep. A clean yard, fresh paint, and sparkling windows improves a home's appearance and appeal.
Wouldn't the same theory hold true for a downtown area?
This project is worth supporting. Don't let it slip through the cracks and disappear.

Marion City Council member Jerry Kline and former commissioner Jim Crofoot hit the nail on the head this week with their comments about the proposed cat ordinance.
When the issue came up at the city council meeting, Kline and Crofoot made comment about the city having better things to do than regulate cats.
Good for you, guys.
Yes, cats can be a problem. But in the grand scheme of things, don't we as a city have bigger issues to worry about?

Summer is winding down but there still are a few families out on the highways of America trying to get in that last vacation before school bells ring.
For those of you who are traveling — be careful. Cars stalled along the side of the road deserve special attention. You never know when a stranded motorist might inattentively walk into the path of an oncoming car.
If you've been stranded on the road, you know what we're talking about. Cars and semis go whizzing by within inches of your vehicle. If you're out changing a tire or checking under the hood, you have to be extra careful of the oncoming traffic and you sometimes take your life in your own hands when standing near a busy highway.
If you're the motorist, and it's safe to do so, move to the left lane when passing a stalled vehicle. If it's not safe, at least slow down. Vacations are for fun and relaxation, not unnecessary tragedy.
