Condemned property to be razed by city
A house at 1018 Denver will be demolished and removed by the City of Marion.
Marion City Commission approved an ordinance Monday regarding the demolition of the property owned by Donald Marques of Florida.
The structure at the Denver address was found by the city in October to be in disrepair and uninhabitable unless specific improvements were made.
Marques was notified each step of the way, and was given sufficient time to respond and make the required improvements. He was to have the improvements completed by Jan. 1. He did not respond to any letters or information sent to him by the city.
Local contractor Jim Davis had attended previous meetings and previously stated he would like to remove a heating unit he had installed and for which he had not been paid.
City officials said they would work with Davis, allowing him sufficient time to remove the heating unit before demolition would begin.
The city will begin demolition after a 21-day waiting period when the ordinance is published in the city's official newspaper, the Marion County Record.
According to the ordinance, the city can salvage and sell whatever may be valuable from the property for compensation.
Additional expenses not covered by salvaged items will be a special assessment on the property.
