Cooper resigns post as city's eco-devo coordinator

Susan Cooper, director of economic development for the City of Marion for the past five years, has resigned.

After the Marion City Commission conducted a 25-minute closed session "for discussion of personnel" at the end of a regular meeting Monday afternoon, City Administrator David Mayfield said Cooper had resigned "to pursue some other offers."

Cooper said that was exactly the case. Her last day on the job for the city will be Oct. 17.

"She's helped me tremendously on my position as city administrator," Mayfield said. "And she's worked diligently at her own job."

Mayfield said it would be "a while" before the city made any decision about a replacement for Cooper.

Commissioners accepted her resignation with regret.
