Burdick UMC hosted a farewell basket dinner for Pastor Rick and Khrista Branson June 29 in the fellowship hall. There were 55 attending. They left July 1 for their new charge in Ashland. Following the dinner, a short program was held. The church presented Pastor Rick with a vestment made by Diana Jost. The congregation also presented them with a scrapbook of photos depicting the five years that Rick and Khrista have been with the church. The youth group gave them a copper cross with heads of wheat. We wish them good luck at their new church but they will be greatly missed at Burdick.

A basket dinner was held Sunday at Burdick UMC fellowship hall to welcome the new student minister, J.J. Beck and his wife, Donna and family from Lyona.

Dakota Spooner of Oklahoma has been a guest of the Basore family for a few days. They had a slumber party Monday in her honor. Those attending were the Basore family, Spooner, Kaylynn Miller of Lost Springs, Briana Svoboda and McKenzie Deines of Ramona, and Casey Simon and Mikeala Kaiser of Lincolnville.

Monday morning visitors of Darlene Gutsch were Jim Gutsch of Emporia, his son, Mike of Mesa, Ariz., and his children, Ben and Jennifer of New York City, and Marilyn Hageberg.

Dean Forsberg was a Monday afternoon visitor of Evelyn Forsberg. He also was a Wednesday dinner guest. Mary Deane Peterson was a Wednesday evening visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

There will be a hamburger fry from noon to 1:30 p.m. July 13 at the Burdick United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, salad, chips, dessert, and drinks will be served for a free will offering. Baked goods and gift items also will be for sale. This is sponsored by the Burdick Relay for Life team, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society and supplemental funds by Thrivent.

A bridal shower June 28 at the Burdick UMC fellowship hall honored Andrea Carlson. Hostesses were Jennifer Kassebaum, Diana Jost, Linda Peterson, Susan Carlson, Angela Basore, and Janet Matz. Special guests were Andrea's mother, Karen Carlson, sister, Carrie Carlson, grandmother, Ruth Ann Carlson, aunts, Susan Carlson and Judy Ingalsbe, De Anna and Desiree of Valley Center, Julie Carlson and Maria, and other neighbors and friends. Andrea is the bride-elect of Elsy Mendoza and they will be married Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Winfield.

Mary Deane Peterson and Evelyn Forsberg attended the official opening for the beatification and canonization of Father Emil Kapaun Sunday at Holy Family Parish, Pilsen.

Dean Forsberg and Savannah were Thursday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.

Shelby Deines and Shelia Makovec were Wednesday afternoon visitors of Darlene Gutsch. Shelby and Justin Deines came back Thursday morning to mow the yard.

Arlene Carlson came home Tuesday morning from the Herington hospital. She reports that she is doing better and is slowly gaining her strength back. Visitors since she came home were Mike Carlson, Jean Brunner, Jill Brunner, Diana Jost, and Jack Riggin.

Weekend guests of Burdette and Maureen Peterson were Ron and Jenny Schrader, Shae and Hunter of Wichita, Cesar and Kelli Salazar, Rigo and Mario of Derby, and Cuyler and Chelsea Cowart of Herington. They attended the Otto and Erna Riffel reunion at Lincolnville.

Ruth Riggin attended a barbecue/birthday party June 22 in honor of her great-grandson, Trevin Sader, given at the home of Lyal and Julie Sader and Brylee at Salina. Other guests included Ruth Riggin, Brian Sader and friend Missy and her daughter, Sammi of Wichita, Helen Sader of Lindsborg, Tisha Bielefeld, Seth and Morgan, and Mck Peddijohn of Salina.

Keith and Dianne Miller of Grand Junction, Colo., came June 20 and were guests of Lois Peterson until June 24. They came to attend the memorial service for Oliver Peterson. When they left they visited relatives in Topeka and returned to their home in Colorado from there.

Shirley Miller hosted a surprise birthday party Thursday for Khrista Branson of Marion. Those attending were Diana Jost, Linda Basore, Lee Shade, Susan Carlson, and Kay Beemer.

Mario Salazar celebrated his second birthday Sunday noon at the La Hacienda Restaurant, Herington. Those attending were Mario's parents and brother, Cesar and Kelli Salazar and Rigo of Derby, Jenny Schrader, Shae and Hunter of Wichita, Cuyler and Chelsea Cowart, Bill and Judy Peterson, Elizabeth Beye of Herington, Burdette and Maureen Peterson, Mary Deane Peterson, Roger and Rolland Peterson, and Evelyn Forsberg.

Keep these friends and neighbors in your thoughts and prayers as they recover from illnesses and surgery: Marilyn Peterson, Nancy Riggin, Arlene Carlson, and Marilyn Hageberg.

Neva Peterson spent the weekend with Darrell and Candice Denault at Salina.
