When making our cookies Friday morning, it was necessary to crush the main ingredient, malted milk balls, quickly. Our fast action saved the malted milk cookies' day, although Ruby popped a half of one into her mouth in record speed. The baked products looked perfect, with a taste of home, a recipe from Audrey Metzger of Larchwood, Iowa, who called them "yummy."

If every player wasn't a bingo winner, it wasn't the fault of our caller, Lois Winter. She used every "resource" at her disposal to give us all an opportunity. An afternoon spent with Lois and our man Friday, Bill Schmipf is a winner itself.

Gene Vinduska and his accordion filled the halls with music Saturday morning, getting the day off to a fine start.

Lydia Batt and May took the initiative and provided some sacred music in the absence of a minister Sunday afternoon.

Tuesday morning we began to mentally design a corkboard display with a "good ol' summertime" theme. We took scissors and cut out and around pictures from many sources, ranging from on-the-knee Band-Aid application, to legs dangling from a hammock to delicious looking fresh fruit and vegetables.

Shortly before noon, Harry and Theodora Koslowsky brought in bouquets of large dahlias, phlox, cornflowers, cosmos, and pink spider flowers from their garden. We sent some empty vases home with them and will keep our fingers crossed.

During book club in the afternoon, we read and mapped Lassie's southward trip going 100 torturous miles around a loch she could not cross. We enjoyed the illustration of her encounter with a weasel and endured her first-ever taste of wild game, a rabbit.

Thursday morning we noted a beautiful bouquet of gladiolas that had mysteriously arrived. The blooms are in deep colors of red, purple, and burgundy, and gain a lot of attention. Shirley Bowers and her granddaughter joined us in the chapel for a time of singing hymns and some conversation that morning. Maybe there's a connection?

ASAP lunch our large "super duty" Ford van was loaded with residents. We drove southwest of town, hoping to catch a peek at some beautiful horses in a pasture belonging to Gary Suderman. That accomplished, we drove through Canada, across the large dam and on to Strassburg Baptist Church, around it, and back, driving through Marion Cove campground on the return trip.

Evidently our lone morning glory has taken the survivor status seriously and is now attempting to devour a rose bush!
