It wasn't a good night Friday for the Centre High School Cougars, as they found themselves ineffective against the White City Huskies in the homecoming game.
The boys didn't have much luck on offense and couldn't stop their opponents' offensive drives.
The team was filled with hope after the first play of the game, in which Centre kicked off and recovered a White City fumble on the reception. Their hopes soon flagged as a strong and fast White City team crossed the goal line again and again.
The Cougars managed five first downs in the entire game, while White City had 10.
White City lost 50 yards on penalties, 35 more than Centre, but was able to overcome the losses.
The Huskies scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and added four extra points to make the score 22-0. They added another 20 points in the second quarter to end the half at 42-0.
The game was called with 10:18 remaining in the third quarter, when Randy Engel of White City ran one yard for another touchdown and the 45-point rule went into effect. The final score was Hope 48, Centre 0.
Statistics tell the story. Centre carried the ball 28 times for 71 yards compared to 18 carries by White City for 237 yards. The Cougars gained 12 yards passing. White City gained 170 yards.
District play begins Friday at Bern.
