Blue Valley-Randolph ended the season for the Centre Cougars in the first round of the 1A regional tournament by defeating them, 73-49.
The game was played at Randolph.
Blue Valley took an 18-12 lead in the first quarter, and the Cougars never caught up. Travis Burns made three two-point baskets in the second quarter, to score the team's only points, compared to 17 points by Wakefield.
The Cougars were down by 17 points at half-time.
Three treys in the third quarter, one by Scott Peterson and two by Todd Stahlecker, plus a two-pointer by Stahlecker provided 11 points. But they were dwarfed by a quarter-high 23 points by Wakefield.
The Cougars picked up their play in the final quarter to outscore Wakefield 20-15, including a trey by Justin Garrard, but it was too little, too late.
Both teams completed four treys, but Blue Valley's inside game allowed them to make 29 two-point goals compared to 17 by Centre.
Burns led scoring with 14 points, followed by Stahlecker with 11. Scott Peterson added five points, and Aaron Barney, Bryant Gutsch, and Trent Hajek added four each.
Other scorers were Tad Remy, three, and Daniel Mikolajcak and Seth Jirak, two each.
The game was a disappointing end to a disappointing 7-13 season. Coach Hake said he and the team were disappointed with how the season unfolded: "We didn't play up to our potential."
